NIA raids offices, houses of human rights activists in Kashmir, Bengaluru

New Delhi, October 28: National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday conducted raids on the premises of various NGOs and Trusts in Kashmir and Bengaluru for alleged terror links.

According to an NIA statement said that searches were conducted at 10 locations in Srinagar and Bandiopora in Jammu and Kashmir, besides one in Bengaluru in connection with a case pertaining to certain so called NGOs and Trusts raising funds in India and abroad in the name of charitable activities and then using those funds for carrying out secessionist and separatist activities in Jammu and Kashmir.

This followed registration of a case under sections 120B, 124A of Indian Penal Code, sections 17, 18, 22A, 22C, 38, 39 and 40 of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act on the basis of a credible information in the matter. 

The NGOs and Trusts whose premises were searched included residence and officer of human rights activist Khurram Parvez (co-ordinator of J&K Coalition of Civil Society), his associates Parvez Ahmad Bukhari, Parvez Ahmad Matta and Bengaluru based associate Swati Sheshadri, Paveeena Ahanger, besides chairperson of Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons and offices of NGO Athrout and GK Trust.
