Doda: A three year old girl had a miraculous escape in a fatal road accident near Raggi nullah in Jammu and Kashmir’s hilly Doda district wherein five members of her family died late Monday evening.

Sources said one Ajit Singh, a paramedic working in Government Medical College, Doda was travelling in an Eeco van along with his family. Near Raggi nullah, the vehicle fell into a deep gorge.

The deceased included Ajit Singh, his wife Chandra Rekha, son Ishaan, a close relative Rakesh Kumar and his mother Bhag Devi.

The sixth member of the family travelling in the ill-fated vehicle, a three year old Ananya survived the fatal fall and escaped unhurt. She was rescued by the police teams from the spot and rushed to the hospital for medical checkup.

Chairman of the Doda District Development Council,  Dhanantar Singh Kotwal  expressed shock and grief over the tragic road accident and conveyed his heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family members. He urged the UT administration to provide free medical treatment to the injured persons and ex-gratia to the next of kin of the deceased.

He expressed concern over growing road accidents in the district and asked the UT administration to come out with an action taken report on various recommendations in the matter, besides preparng a comprehensive report on causes and measures to check road mishaps in the UT especially in Doda, Ramban and Kishtwar districts.
