Two BJP workers in Kashmir who faked militant attack to get more security arrested

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested two BJP workers and an equal number of their PSOs for faking a militant attack on them so as to get an enhanced security cover.

Those arrested include Ishfaq Shafi Mir, son of BJP’s Kupwara district president Mohammad Shafi Mir and Basharat Ahmed, a BJYM activist.

Ishfaq had on Friday sustained a bullet injury in his arm when he was travelling around Gulgam in the district.

After a preliminary investigation, police had said that Mir was injured in accidental firing by a security guard.


However, after sustained questioning, the accused confessed that they had faked the attack to get more security and have the attention of party high command, the officials said.


All of them were presented before a local court on Kupwara on Monday which remanded them to seven days” police custody.


Meanwhile, the BJP has suspended the district president and ordered an internal inquiry.


BJP”s Kashmir spokesperson G M Mir has been asked to submit a report by July 25.
