Security forces jawan martyrs, 3 injured as encounter begins with militants at Sunjwan

JAMMU, APRIL 22: A security forces jawan was killed and four others injured in the wee hours of Friday following an encounter between security forces and militants in and security forces in UT’s Sunjwan village on the outskirts of Jammu city, two days ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first visit to J&K for a government programme after the abrogation of Article 370.

Additional Director General of Police for Jammu zone, Mukesh Singh, told media persons that militants opened fire on police and security forces parties who had already cordoned the area following specific tip off. One security forces jawan has been martyred and four injured, he added.

The militants, believed be to two foreigners owing allegiance to Jaish-e-Mohammad were reportedly holed in a residential area in Sunjwan’s Jalabad area near the Military Station.

The police and other security agencies are already maintaining high alert across the UT in view of PM April 24 visit to Palli which has been billed as India’s first cabon-neutral panchayat and from where he will launch projects worth Rs 38,082 crore in the UT.

Militants had earlier sneaked into the Sunjwan military station twice in the past in 2018 and 2003 killing some soliders and civilians.
