Life term to two for murder of judge in Jharkhand

DHANBAD, AUGUST 6: The Special Judge, CBI Cases, Dhanbad (Jharkhand) on Saturday awarded life imprisonment to  Lakhan Kumar Verma and Rahul Kumar Verma in a case relating to the murder of the then Dhanbad Additional District Judge, Uttam Anand.

Pointing that both the convicts will remain in jail rest of their life without any remission in sentence, the judge also imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 each on both of them.

The CBI had registered an FIR on August 4 last year in connection with the murder of Uttam Anand. Earlier the case was registered by Jharkhand Police following a complaint by deceased’s wife against an unknown auto driver who had hit her husband.

Two people were also arrested by the Jharkhand Police.

The Supreme Court of India also took suo-motu cognizance in the matter and had passed directions for regular monitoring of the case by the High Court of Jharkhand at Ranchi.

After taking over the investigation of the said case, CBI constituted a Special Investigation Team who after 

meticulous and thorough investigation, covering all the possible aspects, filed a chargesheet on October 20 last year against two accused Lakhan Kumar Verma and Rahul Kumar Verma before the Competent Court at Dhanbad.  

As many as 58 prosecution witnesses were examined.  The trial was completed in a record time of almost six months. The entire investigation and trial was completed within record time of around one year from the said incident.

The Trial Court had found both the accused guilty and convicted them on July 28 this year.
