J&K Police ask Transport Dept to take action against vehicles repeatedly used for bovine smuggling

JAMMU, MAY 9: The Jammu and Kashmir Police has approached the Transport Department for blacklisting of vehicles which are found used for bovine smuggling for three or more times.

Pointing out that a letter in this connection has been written by Jammu SSP Dr. Vinod Kumar to the Transport Commissioner, sources said that this has come in the wake of J&K Police’s continued drive to eradicate the menace of bovine smuggling under operation Kamdhenu.

It has identified 20 such vehicles involved in several cases of bovine smuggling and multiple FIRs have been registered against them under relevant sections of law in various police stations across Jammu district. Bovine smuggling is a threat for disturbance of peace/tranquility as it has tendency to flare up communal tensions and many times due to this menace, situation turns unpleasant, the letter pointed out.

Therefore, it important to curb such menace and to take administrative action blacklisting such vehicles which are repeatedly used for such illegal transportation, sources quoting the SSP letter said. The Police Station wise list of vehicles and cases registered against such transportation has been shared with the office of Transport Commissioner J&K for further course of action, they added.

It is pertinent to mention here that J&K Police is very particular regarding curbing menace of bovine smuggling on all the fronts. During the last four months in Jammu district, police have got smugglers involved in repeated offences of bovine smuggling booked under the Public Safety Act.
