AVBP attempt to hoist tri colour at PDP office

Jammu, October 25: Two days after former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti in Srinagar said that she will not raise tri colour until Jammu and Kashmir got back its own flag, people continued to swarm outside her party headquarters to unfurl tri colour for the second day on Sunday.

The day started with a social activist Amandeep Boparai along with his supporters marching to PDP headquarters in Gandhi Nagar area here raising slogans against Mehbooba Mufti. However, they were stopped from raising tri colour at PDP office by a strong contingent of police force already deployed there.

As repeated attempts by them to hoist tri colour at PDP office did not succeed, they left the area after nearly an hour. Boparai had on Saturday succeeded in hoisting tri colour there, but on Sunday he returned along with his supporters to hoist the flag again. “I did so as I wanted to tell the nation that nothing has changed even after the abrogation of Article 370,’’ he added.

Later during the day, ABVP workers also assembled outside the office of PDP and tried to hoist tri colour raising slogans Bhart Mata Ki Jai. However, they too were stopped by police men, making protestors raise slogans against their own UT administration.

They even warned Mehbooba Mufti against visiting Jammu, saying they will not allow the Gupkar alliance leaders to hold meeting in UT’s winter capital city here. Later, they dispersed after tying national flags in different sizes with an iron grill outside the PDP office.

Reacting to attacks on party office, PDP spokesperson and former MLC, Firdous Tak said that BJP and its “ghost’’ organisations have nothing to offer to the people of the country and the erstwhile state except “hyper nationalism and Kashmir bashing’’. Pointing out that it did not surprise them when miscreants under the patronage of BJP and the administration resorted to “goondaism’’ to enforce their ideology, he  said that they under the camouflage of nationalism and national flag, are actually trying to send a message that Jammu is their fiefdom and they can resort to goondaism in broad daylight also without being asked a single question.

“Looking into the trend of growing crowd justice in Jammu, it is opportune time for the administration to act fairly and strictly against such elements,’’ the PDP leader said, adding that PDP do not need a certificate of nationalism from them as its alliance is “anti-bjp and not anti-national’’.
