J&K Police arrest 3 extortionists, recover Rs 3 lakh

Kishtwar, October 28: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday arrested three people and claimed to have solve a blind case of extortion recovering Rs three lakh within 24 hours.

Giving details, police said that on October 24, a local jeweler Sajid Ali Zergar of Kishtwar’s Hidyal mohalla lodged a complaint that some unknown people contacted him two days earlier offering gold at cheaper rates and asked him to bring along with him Rs five lakh at Drabshalla on the Doda-Kishtwar road. On reaching there, he was asked to move to some abandoned place near Kandini. Sensing trouble, the complainant tried to move back towards Kishtwar, but he was stopped under life threat by the accused, who later snatched Rs five lakhs and fled from the spot.

On this, a special team headed by SHO Kishtwar Abid Hussain Bukhari and assisted by SI Jatinder Singh Rakwal was constituted who, on the basis of technical investigation rounded up Yaseen Wahid Ganie, Muzamil Shabir, both residents of Bhaderwah tehsil, who during sustained investigation broke down and confessed the crime. They also named one more person namely Khalid Kotwal of Hidyal, Kishtwar as main planner in the crime, police said, adding he too was arrested.

It said that Rs three lakh have been recovered, adding that some more arrests are expected shortly in the instant case.
