Two ex-MLAs, father-daughter duo, two district chiefs among 44 in 2nd BJP list for DDC polls

Jammu, November 15: Two former BJP MLAs Shakti Raj Parihar and Bharat Bhushan were among 44 candidates whose names figured in the second list cleared by the party for constituencies going to polls during third to sixth phase of District Development Council elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

Of these 44 candidates, fourteen happened to be females. While Shakti Raj Parihar will be contesting from Doda district’s Gundana area, Bharat Bhushan  will be contesting the DDC polls from Jammu district’s Bhalwal constituency, according to list issued by BJP general secretary Dr Devinder Kumar Manyal.

Significantly, Bharat Bhushan was one of the seven BJP legislators who were alleged to have voted for NC and Congress candidates during the Legislative Council polls in 2011. Of them, while the party high command had expelled one for seven years from basic membership of the party, it had suspended others included Bharat Bhushan.

Its pahari (Basohli) district president comprising Bani, Basohli and Billawar assembly constituencies, retired Colonel Mahan Singh will be contesting in Basohli constituency and the sitting Kathua district’s Marheen Block Development Council chairman Karan Kumar Atri (Marheen).

The party’s Poonch district president Mohammad Rafiq Chashti (Poonch) and his daughter Sehrish Rafiq Chashti (Nangali Sahib Sain Baba).

Others contesting the coming DDC polls  in the hilly Doda district include Dhanantar Singh (Bhaderwah East), Yudvir Thakur (Bhaderwah West), Vashan Parihar (Kahara) and Sandeep Singh Manhas (Thathri).

Similarly in Kathua district, Vikram Singh is contesting from Billawar, Rimmi Charak (Dinga Amb) and Narayan Dutt Tripathi (Nagrota Gujroo).

In Udhampur district, it has cleared the names of Rakesh Chander Sharma for Gordhi DDC constituency, Subash Chander (Narsoo) and Juhi Manhas (Khoon), while Rattan Singh will contest the polls in Reasi district’s Mahore area, Monika (Thuroo), Abdul Rashid (Jij Bagli), Raj Kumari (Arnas), and Saraf Singh Nag (Bhomag).

In Kishtwar district, BJP has given mandate to Hussan Bano (Bounjwah), Mehraj Din (Nagseni), Salima Begum (Inderwal), Suman Shakti (Mugal Maidan), Deepak Sharma (Palmar) and Aruna Rani advocate (Thakrai), while Karen Tinda will be contesting from Ramban district’s Gool area, Karanjit Singh (Ukhral-A) and Balbir Singh Bali (Ukhral-B).

In Rajouri district,.Sushma Thakur will be contesting from Kalakote, Vipan Mehta (Dhangri), Mohinder Singh (Nowshera), Asif Choudhary advocate (Doongi)  and Rajinder Singh (Sunderbani).

In Samba, party has decided to field Shilpa Dubey from Vijaypur-A, Sudershan Singh Slathia (Vijaypur-B), Keshav Dutt Sharma (Ramgarh-A), Kartar Chand (Nud) and Sarbjeet Singh Johal (Ramgarh-B).

Apart from former MLA Bharat Bhushan (Bhalwal constituency), others contesting the DDC polls in Jammu district include Vandana Kumari (Marh), Joginder Singh (Nagrota), Geetu Aulakh (Mandal Phallian) and Vidya Mottan (Miran Sahib).
