Jammu, December 13: During the 6th phase of polling for DDC elections in Jammu and Kadhmir on Sunday, UT Police and security forces killed two Pakistani militants and captured one alive along Mughal Road in Poonch district’s Surankote area.

The slain militants, according to Inspector General of Police for Jammu zone, Mukesh Singh, have been identified as Sajid and Bilal, both owing allegiance to proscribed Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit. Two AK 47 rifles, one UBGL and one Thuraya Satphone were recovered from  their possession.

All the three militants who had reportedly crossed over to Jammu and Kashmir from across the Line of Control three days ago on way to Shopian, were cordoned by police and security forces during a joint operation in Poshana area along the Mughal Road which connects Jammu’s border Poonch district with Shopian in Kashmir.

Following input, they were being chased by police and on Friday, police and security forces parties reached the spot but could not launch operation due to snowfall.

“On Sunday afternoon another move was made which resulted in the contact,” sources said, adding that an offer of surrender was given to the militants which include one local and two Pakistanis, but they opened fire on the cordon team which led to the exchange of fire.

After the contact with them was established, they were asked to surrender. However, the militants opened fire and during the ensuing encounter two of them were killed.
