Jammu:  Jammu and Kashmir police on Thursday arrested three Rural Development Department (RDD) officials including a junior engineer in Rajouri district in connection with the theft of official records and files from the office of Block Development Office (BDO) in Darhal Tehsil.

Giving details, sources said that the arrests followed investigations in a complaint lodged at Darhal Police Station on January 16 that some official records from BDO office was missing.

Sources said that following a video uploaded on social media by some elected panchayat members regarding a demonstration in protest over alleged irregularities into the execution of development works under MGNREGA and other Centrally sponsored schemes, Additional Deputy Commissioner Susheel Khajuria had gone to Darhal to look into the matter. He had assured the elected panchayat members to hold an enquiry and initiate action in case of any irregularity into the matter.

However, two days after he returned to the district headquarters at Rajouri, a complaint was lodged by the officials about the theft of official record from BDO office. Sources said that the missing record has been recovered and three people including a junior engineer, a village level worker (VLW) and an accounts assistant have been arrested.

The matter is under investigation, sources said.
