1718 cases resolved, Rs 3.42 crore settled in Special Lok Adalat across J&K

Jammu:  In order to build up a harmonious connection between the disputing parties, J&K Legal Services Authority (JKLSA) on Saturday organized Special Lok Adalat across Jammu and Kashmir.

It is pertinent to mention that Chief Justice of J&K high Court, Justice Pankaj Mithal is Patron-in-Chief of JKLSA and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey is its Executive Chairman.

This Special Lok Adalat was organized in all the districts of J&K to achieve the goal of ‘Access to Justice’ for all and to help the poor litigants tide over their financial problems and untold mental stress. This is the first Special Lok Adalat after the courts resumed partial physical hearing in view of COVID-19 pandemic.

As per the information received from the districts, out of a total number of 2804 cases taken up by 90 Benches in the day long Special Lok Adalat at various courts across J&K, 1718 cases were disposed of and an amount of Rs 3,42,31,135 was awarded as compensation/settlement amount in civil, criminal, labour disputes, electricity and water bills cases, Land Acquisition, family matters, cheque dishonor and Bank Recovery cases.

Member Secretary, J&K Legal Services Authority, M.K.Sharma  thanked all the participants including the Judicial Officers, Secretaries DLSAs, Advocates, representatives of insurance companies & banks, staff of the courts & Legal Services Institutions & litigants for their pragmatic approach in settlement of cases in such a large number.

Next Special Lok Adalat will be held on March 20, 2021.
