J&K Congress asks Sinha to convene all party meeting to discuss Covid-19 situation

Jammu: Jammu Kashmir Congress Committee on Monday suggested the UT’s Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to convene an all party meeting through virtual mode at the earliest so as to get inputs regarding lack of facilities to deal with the grim situation and steps needed to further upgrade the facilities to effectively face the challenge posed by COVID-19.

The Congress claimed that LG in separate calls to J&K Congress president G A Mir and Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma had sought their cooperation and suggestions to improve facilities and more effectively deal with the Covid situation.

Welcoming the suo motu initiative of the to speak to opposition leaders and others seeking their suggestions and cooperation to combat the grim Covid situation, a party release here said that both the leaders shared inputs about the prevailing situation and the hardships faced in availing health facilities and the areas of further improvement and upgradation to more effectively deal with the Covid wave.

Apprising the LG of the fear amongst people about shortage of facilities in hospitals especially vaccine for all age groups, Mir felt the need to immediately discuss the situation at all party meeting. He assured him that Congress party would render all sorts of cooperation and suggestions as well as inputs to improve the facilities in order to minimise the sufferings of the people, release said.

The LG told him that he would be speaking to different political leaders and assured him to consider the suggestion shortly.

Sharma took up the issue of high rate of casualties in the GMC and associated hospitals in Jammu and urged the LG to invite experts and also consult the number of experts including former Principals of GMCs and other senior doctors to improve the facilities and remove shortcomings. He said the doctors should be given all the required facilities to save the precious lives as the number of fully equipped beds in GMC are limited and no of serious patients is going up every day.

 He also welcomed his direct communication with different shades of people to seek their suggestions and inputs to better deal with the situation.

Sharma also apprised him about the heavy rush during the vaccination and testing and urged him to set up more vaccination centres away from the covid hospitals to save further spread of the Covid infections.He also took up the issue of non availability of food arrangements for the attendants.

The party also desired  to share with him the  detailed suggestions based on inputs from the public, attendants especially senior doctors and others.

JKPCC Chief assured the LG that the party is ready to extend full cooperation to his efforts to improve the health facilities to deal with the  situation which is very grim and there are shortcomings and shortages on various fronts and collective efforts and more channels of communication can lower the sufferings of the people and reduce the risk of higher casualties.
