Kupwara: Jammu Kashmir Police on Sunday arrested a militant associate and seized eight kgs of heroin, claiming to have busted a trans border narco module in border Kupwara district of Kashmir.

The estimated value of the seized heroin is stated to be Rs 50 crore in the international market, sources said.

A police statement said that police in Kupwara district following specific information busted a narco module and arrested a militant associate Mudasir Ahmad Lone of Karen Bala.

“Incriminating material narcotic substance Heroin 08 kgs (worth 50 Cr. Market value) were recovered from possession of the apprehended accused”, it said.

The other persons in the module are absconding and they have been identified. Efforts are on to arrest them, the statement adde.

“The module was in close connection with ‘Pakistan-based handlers and were involved in drug trade and assisting financially to active militants of the Valley’. The recoveries also exposed the inter-connection between drug dealers and militants”, the statement pointed out.

“The module was working for militants to strengthen their activities in the valley and were misguiding and motivating the local youth of the Valley to join militant ranks”, it maintained.

A case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Kralpora and investigations taken up. Kupwara Police once again appeals the people of the District to come forward with the information regarding drug peddlers, smugglers so that the curative steps can be taken against them.
