Chemical factory razed to ashes in massive fire at Battal Ballian, Udhampur

Jammu: A chemical factory was razed to ashes in a devastating fire that broke out during wee hours of Friday in Battal Ballian industrial area in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district.

Pointing out that fire broke out around 12.30 am, sources said that its cause was yet to be ascertained. However, short circuit as a reason cannot be ruled out, they added.

Initially, fire tenders from Udhampur tried to douse the fire, but later fire tenders from nearby Reasi and Jammu districts were also called. Army too joined the fire fighting operations, while district administration requisitioned the services of Indian Air Force as well.

People in nearby Battal Ballian village has a sleepless night as authorities had got the village vacated as a precautionary measure. The CRPF personnel at a camp on the backside of the factory too had moved away from there.

It was later in the morning that the fire was brought under control. However, fire fighting operation was still in progress.

Police have registered a case in the matter and started investigations.
