Chhari Mubarak yatra to Amarnath shrine to be `symbolic’ this year

The yatra will commence as per tradition after Bhoomi Pujan, Navgrah Pujan and Dhawajarohan at Pahalgam on the auspicious occasion of Ashad Purnima (Vyas Purnima) falling on July 24.

Jammu: Chhari Mubarak Swami Amarnathji yatra to Amarnath Shrine will commence with the Bhoomi Pujan, Navgrah Pujan and Dhawajarohan at Pahalgam on the auspicious occasion of Ashad Purnima (Vyas Purnima) falling on July 24.

Announcing this, a statement issued be Dashnami Akhara, the custodian of Chhari Mubarak (Holy Mace of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati), in the wake of cancellation of pilgrimage this year too due to Covid-19 pandemic, Chhari Mubarak Swami Amarnathji Yatra this year shall be symbolic, but the age old traditions relating to the pilgrimage shall be upheld.

Quoting the Akhara head Mahant Deependra Giri, it said that the UT’s Lt Governor Manoj Sinha has assured him that all necessary arrangements will be made by the government for Chhari-Mubarak yatra. The assurance came when Mahant Deependra Giri met the Lt Governor on Monday evening and presented him a detailed programme about the Chhari Mubarak yatra. Nitishwar Kumar, Principal Secretary to Lt Governor, had also joined the meeting later, it added.

It said that Chhari-Mubarak shall be taken to historic Shankracharya Temple on August 8 and Sharika Bhawani Temple on August 9 before rituals are performed for Chhari-Sthapana at Shri Amareshwar Temple in Dashnami Akhara, Srinagar on August 11.

After performing Chhari-Pujan at Dashnami Akhara on the occasion of ‘Nag-Panchami’ falling on August 13, Mahant Deependra Giri with limited number of Sadhus shall carry the Holy Mace to Amarnath shrine that is situated in South Kashmir Himalayas at an altitude of 13,500 feet to have ‘Darshan’ on ‘Shravan-Purnima’ which is falling on August 22.

This is the Holy Cave wherein Lord Shiva manifested into Ice Lingam and on the request of Goddess Parvati recounted the secret story by listening to which one gets rid of cycle of life and death.

On Shravan Purnima, traditional Pujan shall be performed with the chanting of Vedic Hymns and collective prayers shall also be offered before Swami Amarnath Ji to eradicate and to wipe out the nasty corona pandemic at the earliest, the statement said. Prayers for the peace and prosperity of Jammu and Kashmir shall also be offered, it added.
