Ex-Army man among three held with 2 kg heroin in Khour

Jammu: Anti Narcotic Task Force of Jammu and Kashmir arrested three people including an ex-serviceman during the last three days and claimed to have busted a drug cartel having links in Pakistan.

The arrested persons include ex-serviceman Balbir Singh, Kamal Singh and Naresh Kumar. Two kgs “Afghan grade” heroin valuing Rs 14 crore in the international market have been seized from them.

Giving details, SSP ANTF Vinay Sharma said that they had, following specific inputs, apprehended Naresh Kunar who was driving a Scooby from Khour near the Line of Control towards Akhnoor side on July 19. One packet of heroin was seized from him.

Following his preliminary questioning, he revealed the names of two more people saying that they knew the place where another packet of narcotics was lying near the LoC. Following this, the ANTF personnel along with security forces moved in waist deep waters accumulated in border area following heavy rains over the last two days and recovered the other packet as well.

The other two accused were also arrested, he said, adding the accused have revealed that members of the drug cartel in Pakistan have been throwing narcotics on this side from over the fence and they have been picking them up from there.

He said that some Pakistani nationals associated with the drug cartel have been identified and they will taken the help of even Interpol to apprehend them.
