Cop held for wife’s murder in Poonch district

Poonch: A constable of the Jammu Kashmir Police has been arrested by police for murdering his 36 year old wife in border Poonch district.

Identifying the deceased as Shanaz Akhter, a school teacher and mother of three girls and a son, sources said that she was allegedly strangulated by her husband along with his mother. Later, duo threw her body nearly 100 meters away from their house.

Police recovered the body at Keri Gulatta on August 24 with injury marks on it. Accordingly, a case of murder was registered at Gursai Police Station.

 Based on the technical and other evidence, police’s investigation team found that the woman’s husband, constable Mohammad Irfan Manhas, had reached home during midnight amd strangulated his wife when she was asleep. His mother had held the deceased’s legs.

The constable, who was posted with IRP battalion at Batamaloo in Srinagar, tried to destroy the murder evidence and changed the cloths of the deceased before abandoning her body 100 meters away from their house.

Thereafter, the cop left for Srinagar in a truck so as to give an impression that he was on duty when the murder took place, sources said.     

Officer added that due to the sincere efforts of SHO Gursai Niaz Ahmed and technical team of Dysp operation Poonch Manish Sharma and timely guidance and supervision of SSP Poonch and DIG Rajouri-Poonch range Vivek Gupta led to the solving of the blind murder case with in a period of five days, despite criminals’ attempt to destroy all the evidence.
