Omar feels `scared’ of moving out of J&K in view of atmosphere prevailing in the country

POONCH, MAY 14: National Conference vice president and former chief minister of the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir State, Omar Abdullah here Saturday said that he is scared of moving out of J&K in view of the atmosphere created  in the country where the first target are unfortunately the Muslims.

“A very dangerous game is being played  instigating the sentiments of the people,’’ he said addressing party workers at Poonch. Right from playing of Ajaan from mosques to eating Halal meat and wearing Hijazb, everything is under attack, he said.

Pointing out that someone has rightly said that attempts are being made to change India where it was promised to treat every religion equally, he said “that Hindustan is being destroyed’’. He also criticised the demolition drive against members of one community in some parts of the country, asking whether people from one religion only have made illegal constructions. 

Turning to Jammu and Kashmir, the National Conference leader said that “some people here are in a hurry to erase our history’’. “We were a State and God willing we will again become a State,’’ he said referring to the commitment made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah on floor of the Parliament to restore statehood to J&K soon.

However, they are in such a hurry that they want to remove the word “State’’ from everything, he said while referring to the paint being put on this word mentioned in the J&K State Road Transport Corporation buses and trucks. By doing so, they have changed the name of the company, he said.

Referring to the abrogation of Article 370 which guaranteed special status to the erstwhile Jammu Kashmir State, he said “after all a promise was made to us’’. Reiterating his party’s stand to fight for the rights of the people and getting justice to them, he said that “how much they may desire, we are not ready to accept defeat so easily”. “We will not put paint on these things…We will not erase these things,” he added.

“We will fight to get justice…We will fight for our rights, but through peaceful means,” he said, adding “we will not take law in our hands and we will not spoil the atmosphere here”. “We will not divide people here, he said, adding “we will knock the doors where ever required,” he added.
