JAMMU, JULY 15: Rubaiya Sayeed, daughter of former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, on Friday appeared before a special TADA court in case relating to her abduction in December 1989 and identified the JKLF chief Yaseen Malik and three others as her abductors, officials said.

This is the first time Rubaiya Sayeed has been asked to appear in the case. She was freed after five jailed militants were released in exchange.

Rubaiya Sayeed is listed as a prosecution witness by the CBI, which took over investigations into the case in early 1990.

Yaseen Malik, chief of the banned JKLF, who was recently sentenced to life imprisonment in a terror funding case and is presently lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail, is an accused in the case.

Rubaiya Sayeed abduction case, which  had virtually gone into cold storage, gained momentum after Yaseen Malik was picked up by the National Investigation Agency in 2019 on charges of terror funding. With the help of special public prosecutors Monika Kohli and S K Bhat, the CBI got the charges framed against JKLF leader into the Rubaiya Sayeed abduction case in January 2021.
