1 drug peddler runover by truck, another held as Police seize Rs 1.91 crore in Udmapur

JAMMU, AUGUST 4: A drug peddler who tried to run away in Udhampur district was run over by a speeding truck along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, while another apprehended by Jammu Kashmir Police on late Wednesday night.

Identifying the deceased as Mukhtar Ahmed of Tangdhar in Kashmir’s Kupwara district and the injured as Jagtar Singh of Punjab’s Tarantaran district, Dr Vinod Kumar, SSP Udhampur said they have seized Rs 1.91 crore in cash and 250 gms of heroin from them. The apprehensions followed a tip off about the exchange of a consignment of narcotics and huge cash between two parties as part of narco-terror network.

 The police had already laid a naka when Jagtar Singh came in his Scorpio, Mukhtar was already waiting there at Gole Mela area. On seeing police, both tried to run away, but latter was run over by a speeding truck. The injured was immediately rushed to Udhampur district hospital and from there referred to Government Medical College at Jammu, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The police have registered a case and started investigations. Some more arrests are likely in the matter.
