Courts not abiding by their own rulings: Mehbooba Mufti on Gyanvapi verdict

JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 13: PDP chief and former Jammu Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday said that the courts in the country were not abiding by their own rulings.

When asked about the Varanasi court verdict Hindu plea for right to pray in Gyanvapi mosque, she while talking to media persons here said there has already been a court ruling to maintain status quo in respect to places of worship belonging to all the religions that existed after 1947. Even the parliament had passed an Act in the matter, she said, adding “what can she say if courts do not abide by their own ruling’’.

The PDP leader linked the court order to the ploy to divert attention of the people as BJP does not have jobs to offer them, nor does it can address the problem of rising prices. Pointing out that except for two corporate houses, people in the country are becoming poorer with each passing day, she said that BJP thinks it fit to pitch Hindus against Muslims.

“We may not become Vishwa Guru (world leader) in any other thing, but we will in demolishing the mosques,’’ she said. She accused BJP of creating a wedge between people in Jammu and Kashmir divisions, adding that her party, however, want that both stay together.

She also regretted the statement of former chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad that Article 370 cannot be restored. Perhaps, he is not aware that the same BJP is now prepared to give Nagaland its flag. Without telling anybody, they are talking to an organization which blew up a truck in which 18 security force personnel were travelling, she added.
