Later addressing media persons, Raina said that the Mayor at the meeting expressed his desire to be be relieved of his present responsibilities in the Corporation and be some work in the organization. The Deputy Mayor Purnima Sharma too expressed similar desire, he said, adding that all the councilors present at the meeting appreciated the services rendered by both especially in view of large scale development works going on to make Jammu a smart city.

They will be handing over their resignations to the JMC Commissioner by evening.

Meanwhile, BJP’s national general secretary Tarun Chugh who is also incharge of party affairs in J&K, is visiting Jammu on Sunday to attend a meeting of all the party councilors who will be electing their new Mayor and Deputy Major.

Of the 75 elected in Jammu Municipal Corporation who were elected in 2018, BJP has 43. The five year term of these councilors is ending next year.

Early this month, following resentment over lack of development works, some BJP councilors had supported a no confidence motion against their party man holding the office of president in the Kathua Municipal Council and elected an independent in his place.

A few days ago, a no-confidence motion was moved against another BJP president in the Udhampur Municipal Council. However, the result of voting on that no-confidence motion is awaited following stay order from J&K and Ladakh High Court.
