SIA files chargesheet against former minister Babu Singh, 2 others in terror funding case

JJAMMU, SEPTEMBER 24: The State Investigation Agency here on Saturday filed chargesheet against former minister Jatinder Singh alias Babu Singh) among three in the court of 3rd Additional Sessions Judge in a case relating to terror funding in Jammu and Kashmir.

The other two named in the chargesheet include Mohammad Sharee Shah of Anantnag’s Larnoo area and Mohammad Hussain Khateeb of Bhaderwah in Doda district. The latter is, at present, staying in Pakistan.

Mohammad Shareef Shah was arrested by police in Jammu along with Rs 6.90 lakh in cash which was meant to be delivered to Jatinder Singh @ Babu Singh for use in his anti-national activities and his party “Nature Mankind Friendly Global Party”, chargesheet said.

According to it, Babu Singh was in touch with the Hizb-Ul-Mujahideen terrorists and separatists of JKLF (an unlawful association). These inimical entities had sent this terror fund from Pakistan through their associates for Babu Singh’s party, it added.

In support of its charge, it pointed out that the vision document of this party floated by Babu Singh was to make J&K, PoK and Gilgit Baltistan as one independent country by making a condominium of Pakistan and India, for having joint control over currency, external affairs and finance.

In the investigation it has been revealed that Babu Singh was in contact with Mohammad Hussain Khateeb over encrypted social media applications and had clandestinely visited Dubai for arranging funds. Mohammad Shareef Shah was designated as secretary of this party and he received these funds at Kashmir through unknown person and travelled to Jammu to handover them over to Babu Singh.

The fund was arranged by Mohammad Hussain Khateeb, an HM terrorist operating from Pakistan. However, Shareef Shah was arrested before he could hand over this terror fund to Babu Singh, chargesheet said.

The investigation has established that Babu Singh was conducting online meetings and interviews with the adversary and in his online address, he had compared a terrorist, Maqbool Bhat with Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev and termed Maqbool Bhat as Freedom Fighter and Martyr of J&K, who laid down his life for the independence of Jammu and Kashmir, it said. In one of such online interviews, Babu Singh had challenged and threatened the Government of India to desist from further breaking Jammu and Kashmir, this reference is in context of abrogation of Article 370, it added.

The association of Babu Singh with Mohammad Hussain Khateeb and other cadres of HM outfit, operating from Pakistan has also been established in investigation, the chargesheet said, adding that anti-national and highly inflammatory content has been recovered by SIA form the mobile phone of Babu Singh which establishes his intention to damage and threaten the unity, integrity and sovereignty of India.

For all these acts, of omission and commission, offences under sections 13,16,17,18,20,38,39 & 40 of UA (P) Act 1967 have been attracted against Babu Singh and others, chargesheet pointed out.
