Three narcotics smugglers from Punjab held by J&K Police with heroin, pistol and cash in Samba district

Trio were on the run after opening fire on local villagers in Ramgarh sector along the IB.

JAMMU, JUNE 12: Three heroin smugglers from Punjab, who opened fire on local villagers injuring two of them at Rangoor Camp in Samba district’s Ramgarh sector along the international border with Pakistan during wee hours of Monday, were apprehended by Jammu and Kashmir Police later during the day along with a consignment of heroin, Rs 93,200 in cash, besides a pistol along with magazine and some rounds.

Identifying them as Jagdeep Singh, 21, of Madipur village and Satinderpal Singh, 26, of Rattoke, both in Taran Taran district, besides Sunny Kumar, 22, of Guru Nanakpura in Amritsar, Samba SSP Benam Tosh said that one of them too had sustained a bullet injury in  firing by one of his accomplices. An over two kgs of heroin was seized from them.

Giving details, he said that around 0045 hours on the intervening night of June 11-12, three heroin smugglers had an altercation followed by scuffle with local youth over a trivial issue of giving pass to their vehicle at the border Rangoor Camp village. During THE scuffle, Satinder Paul Singh opened fire with pistol Glock upon the local youth injuring two of them including Sunil Kumar ( 21 ) S/o Bhagwan Dass and Sunil Kumar ( 21 ). 

Local villagers, however, said that they were looking for a village boy who had been missing earlier during the day. When they were retuning from neighbouring village, they found an Innova vehicle bearing registration number CH0BW-8889 passing through their village. As they asked the occupants of the vehicle about their identity and the purpose of their visit, the latter started an altercation which finally led to scuffle between them,

As the villagers managed to take out keys of the vehicle during the scuffle, the smugglers after opening fire managed to escape from them on the motorcycle of a local youth.

In the meanwhile, Police Station Ramgarh received information regarding the firing incident and registered a case under  FIR No. 31/2023 U/S 307 IPC, 3/25 Arms Act. All the nakas across the district were made alert and information was shared with all the police stations, police posts across the district by Samba police control room.

Finally, the alert police party of Rarian Naka succeeded in apprehending all the three smugglers who were fleeing after committing crime. All the three injured including two local youth and one apprehended smuggler have been hospitalised at Government Medical College Hospital for treatment.

Later, on disclosures made by the apprehended smugglers in presence of Executive Magistrate, 1st class, the police seized pistol Glock with magazine and ammunition and two packets of heroin from a place near Rarian. Four costly mobile phones too were seized from them.
