LG bans private practice by medical professionals, practitioners associated with SKIMS

Jammu, November 10: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday banned private practice by medical and para medical staff working at the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in Kashmir Valley.

According to a notification issued by General Administration Department, this follows amendment in the Jammu and Kashmir Government Employees Conduct Rules, 1971 on directions of Lt Governor Manoj Sinha. The new rules say “notwithstanding anything contained in any other law for the time being in force, no member of medical or para medical staff of the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Srinagar shall indulge in private practice in any manner’’.

The amended rules also provided for punishment to those doing private practice, saying “in case any member of the medical or para medical staff of the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Srinagar is proved to have acted in breach’’ of the rules, “it shall amount to misconduct attracting major penalty, besides he shall be liable for criminal prosecution under relevant provisons of law’’.
