Muzaffar Baig quits PDP

Srinagar, November 15: In what may be called a serious set back to Gupkar alliance ahead of the coming District Development Council elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Muzaffar Hussain Baig, the founding member of PDP has resigned from the party following disagreement over seat-sharing between PDP and other allies including National Conference.

PDP sources said that Baig has informed the party president Mehbooba Mufti about his decision to leave the party. The former had been associated with the party since the inception of the PDP in 1998.

Party sources in the PDP party said that Muzaffar Hussain Baig was angry over seat-sharing by the People’s Alliance for Guptkar Declaration (PAGD), especially in North Kashmir.

Meanwhile, Mehbooba Mufti tweeted, ‘PAGD has been created to protect the identity of the people of Jammu Kashmir who are under continuous attack since August 2019. It is wrong to believe that it has been formed to gain an edge in elections or to advance the interests of the party.”
