Jammu: Border Security Force personnel on Tuesday evening killed a person allegedly making attempt to cross the international border in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramgarh sector of Samba district.

Giving details, official sources said that BSF troops observed suspicious movement of an intruder “aggressively moving towards wild sarkanda growth while approaching the fence from the side of Pakistan’s villge Lehri Kalan and later entering the Indian territory between Border Post No. 12/5 and 12/6. The intruder attempted to negotiate and exploit the Basantar river gap,’’ they said.

BSF troops tracked and challenged him, but the intruder tried to escape back into the Pak territory, making the former open fire. The dead body of intruder was recovered upon search of area and handed over to Ramgarh police station.

Basantar River has been a traditional route of exploitation for infiltration and Lehri Kalan has been old launching pad of militants. This is the third killing of Pak intruder in recent times.

Earlier during the day, an airplane shaped balloon with ‘PIA’ written on it was found in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bhalwal area .

This was the second such balloon seized by police in a week as earlier a similar balloon was found in Kathua district’s Sotra Chak village in Hiranagar sector. PIA stands for Pakistan International Airlines.
