BJP leader shot dead by militants outside his house in Pulwama district

Srinagar: A BJP leader shot dead by unknown gunmen in Tral area of Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday night.

Identifying the deceased as Rakesh Pandit son of Brij Nath Pandit, reports said that unknown militants opened fire injuring him critically outside his house. He was shifted to hospital, but he succumbed to injuries.

One lady has also reportedly received bullet in leg in the incident. She has been shifted to Pulwama hospital for treatment. 

Area has been cordoned off to nab the attackers.

Earlier, police had claimed to have arrested a LeT militant associate along with a grenade and 50 live bullets of AK-47 in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

Pointing out that a naka was laid by a joint team of 14 RR, 3 CRPF and UT Police at Putushai on the basis of a specific tipoff, police said that a suspect, Irshad Ahmad Mir of Onagam Bandipora was stopped at the naka. During search, the naka party seized grenade and ammunition from him.

During questioning, the arrested person revealed that he was working as an militant associate for Lashkar-e-Taiba. The seized ammunition was handed over to him to effect a militant strike in the general area of Bandipora.
