Poonch: Over half a dozen shops were razed to ashes in devastating fire during wee hours of Saturday in Jammu and Kashmir’s Loran area of border Poonch district.

However, quick action by Army troops saved the situation as they despite limited fire fighting resources contained the fire from spreading further.

Giving details, sources said that around 0345 hrs, Indian Army at Loran received an SOS call from a local shop owner about a massive fire incident in the Loran market.

Firefighting team comprising 100 personnel was immediately rushed to the spot along with requisite fire fighting equipment and water bowsers.

Team was informed on arrival that three LPG cylinders blasted in a hotel setting seven shops ablaze. The Indian Army team quickly analysed the situation and with utter disregard to personal safety, not only removed another four LPG cylinders from the hotel but also contained the fire with limited firefighting resources preventing a massive disaster.

Timely action of the Indian Army team helped in containing the fire and prevented its spread to nearby shops including J&K Bank thus preventing further damage to precious life and property.

The fire was fully extinguished by the IA firefighting team along with the locals by around 0445 hours.  A relieved Awaam expressed their sincere gratitude and appreciated the timely assistance of the Indian Army.
