Apni Party workers court arrest in Jammu; seek 27 % reservation for OBCs

Jammu: Led by Apni Party’s state coordinator of the OBC wing Madan Lal Chalotra, an over three dozen Apni Party activists here on Monday courted arrest near Dogra Chowk to press their demand for implementation of Mandal Commission report granting 27 per cent reservation to OBC community in Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier, they held a demonstration outside Jammu Press Club. However, after sometime, when they tried to take out a procession, police stopped them.

After a minor scuffle, a number of demonstrators later courted arrest.

Earlier  speaking on the occasion, Chalotra while referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement about One Nation One Law, asked as to why there has been stepmotherly treatment to OBCs in J&K.

He accused BJP, National Conference, Congress and the PDP of never taking up this issue for their vote bank politics. He appealed to the people of J&K to join hands with the Apni party and fight for their rights.

Prominent among those who participated in the protest included Darshan Mehra, Sat Pal Verma, Naresh Malhotra, Pawan Verma, Baldev Raj, Swarn Lal, Iqbal Krishan Maski, Krishan Lal Verma, S Jaspal Singh, Basant Raj, Deepak Kumar, Sonu Kayshap, Jagdish Raj, Kuldeep Raj, SP Verma, Kulwant Raj, Dharam Pal, Sanjeev Dafara, Shardeesh Rana, Vaibhav Matoo, Ashraf, Deepak Bradoo, Ghulam Nabi Shah, Kulwant Singh and others.
